James Monroe Cook (1818-1850) was well known in upstate New York as a fierce debater in defense of Universalism and was founding editor of the Western Luminary, a Universalist paper. This excellent memoir was written by his brother, also a Universalist minister. ; Very little wear. A touch of foxing to a few pages at front and rear. Gift note 'Elizabeth Simmons Nov 24 1855 Victor NY to Isabel A. Stone' penned in a very delicate hand on front endpaper. No other marks. Quite scarce in any condition. ; Items laid in: 1) very old clipping of memorial poem by Mary Frances Tyler. 2) very old calling card of Mrs. Daniel W. Fish of Staten Island.
