113 pages; 4to (11.25") 29 cm; Tall hardcover, gray and tan cloth, [xx] + 113 heavy-duty pages, all edges inked orange, 12 full-page b/w illustrations, complete text of play, with dozens of songs, each with tune in standard notation but without lyrics, and with lyrics given on same page. ; Originally published 1728. This text is from edition of 1765. Text by John Gay (1685-1732) with wonderful new illustrations by Mariette Lydis (1894-1970) and new introduction by A. P. Herbert. Tunes snatched from popular ballads and famous composers of the day. This edition copyright 1937, reprinted 1945.; Almost no wear, but cloth discolored on spine, which reads THE BE otherwise spine is pretty much unreadable. No other defects. No jacket, as issued. Lacks slipcase.
