This printing 1898. ; One of America's most famous women of 19th century, Mary Livermore gained fame as army nurse during Civil War, spent 25 years as national lecturer and activist for temperance and women's rights, became known as Queen of the Platform. She and her husband, the Rev. Daniel Livermore, were outspoken Universalists. ; Library marks cover rear endpaper and copyright page. Library number painted on heel. Front endpaper has antique library bookplate only. Other defects: cloth worn at extremities, faded on spine, which is difficult to read. Both hinges have play. Scarce, sold as is.
