74 pages; 12mo (7.75") 20 cm; Small hardcover, tan cloth over spine, gray-blue boards, black lettering on spine band, 74 pages, cotton-fiber paper throughout, footnotes, dozens of mathematical formulas, 1 table, 27 b/w line diagrams. ; Originally published as series of articles in American Railroad Journal, 1835. This is 1st edition in book form, 1836. Complete subtitle: 'Being an Investigation of all the Principal Formulas Which Are Required for Field Operations, in Laying Curves and Tangent Lines to Pass through Given Points.' ; Basic mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry as applied to designing curved segments of railroads. ; Light exterior wear. Two small scars to front board, which is unlettered. Owner name (James Herrow An Engineer) lightly and neatly penciled on front endpaper in an old hand. No other marks. The main defect is two small wormholes which affect mainly endpapers and margins but do affect small of amount of text on 7 leaves. Everything can be understood from context. Binding is intact. Rare.
